✨Queer Utopias: Grrrl In Print Issue 5✨ Launch party ✨
Introducing Grrrl In Print issue 5, QUEER UTOPIAS
Everybody deserves escapism, and it's something the queer community is very good at - not only as a means of self-care and survival but as a way to forge a vision for the future, pushing boundaries beyond the status quo and tradition, because we've rarely been accepted there anyway. Utopia literally means “no place” and it’s the ideal location for escapism - especially the many forms of queer escapism: queer utopias.
We explore this idea of QUEER UTOPIAs through interviews, artworks, photography, essays and comics created by 20 artists and writers from across the globe. The zine contemplates where robots meet bodies, nourishment of love and food, how do we slow down and remain tender within hyper capitalisation, and how queerness, the environment and home building intersect; alongside some sci-fi fanzine-ing, of course!
✨ Don’t Miss Our Launch Event ✨
We’re going all out to create the perfect Queer Utopia at the legendary queer venue, Dalston Superstore, Dalston (117 Kingsland High St, London E8 2PB) on Thursday 2nd March from 6.00pm.
Expect a fun but intimate evening of connection, vibrance and expression as we celebrate the contributors and community of queer creatives that made this issue possible, with:
Music from DJs Gin and Areola Grande Latte
Nail art and tooth gems from our friends at Bebop LDN
Zines on sale
Recycled goodie bags from Kindbag with plenty of GRRRL treats for early attendees
Drop in zine making throughout the evening to get your creative juices flowing
New ! Limited ! Edition! Merch !
A first peek at our month-long exhibition showcasing our contributors work.
RSVP to your own Queer Utopia via Eventbrite now + pre-order the zine here from 22nd Feb.
Turl Street Arts Festival Zine Workshop
The workshop will take place on the 15th of Feb from 2-4 in the Jesus Habakkuk room!
We’ll be looking at sections of their zine library and making our own zines! Feel free to bring along images/magazines/writing/ideas you might want to include…
There are 20 spaces tickets available via the link, first come first serve and you will be emailed if you get a space. If you can’t come after being given a space then please let us know so someone else can take your place!!
Zine Workshops + talks
The goal of Grrrl Zine workshops is to show that everyone can be creative or express themselves through print. We use zine-making to develop stories and to share artwork, photography and writing, to pull together an individual’s ideas, or to develop a zine collaboratively.
Traditionally zine-making has been all about access and a culture of ‘doing it yourself’ outside traditional journalism and institutions. Zine-making can be an adaptable means of self-expression, an easy way to share information, or a practice of self-care, cutting and pasting intuitively as a cathartic experience.
We curate workshops to suit participants and organisations, whether that’s sharing an in-depth history of the political aspects of zine-making and alternative print publishing; writing and collage-making through mental health awareness workshops; or using the medium to create a zine around an event.
We deliver workshops and talks in person and online, offering anything from a one-hour presentation to five-hour drop-in workshops linked to events, or a full-day structured workshop. To discuss options and see prices, drop us an email and we will send you our zine-making workshop pack.
